Hambledon Classic Cuvée (Brut NV) is a premium traditional-method English sparkling wine from Hambledon Vineyard (England’s oldest commercial vineyard, established 1952) in Hampshire.

Hambledon’s signature and best-selling wine. It is hand-harvested from their estate, aged at least 35 months on the lees, and undergoes malolactic fermentation with bâtonnage in some releases. It offers vibrant, structured acidity with notes of green apple, pear, citrus (lemon, grapefruit), apricot, brioche, yeast, and nutty/toasty development. It combines English apple-fresh energy with creamy Chardonnay character, soft red fruit from Pinot Noir, and subtle savoriness from Pinot Meunier.

Critics Reviews (Selected):

  • Decanter (Sylvia Wu): 92 points — Yeasty nose with citrus blossom; creamy with elegant green apple and nutty development; high acidity provides freshness.

  • Jancis Robinson / Tamlyn Currin: 17/20 — “A wine with a golden nose and golden flavours: pear tarte Tatin, tobacco leaves, saffron… Impressive.”

  • Decanter (other tastings): Often 90 points range, praised for complexity, balance, and Champagne-like quality.

  • General consensus: High 80s to low 90s; noted for finesse, chalk-driven vibrancy, and aging potential. Some older notes around 86-90 on CellarTracker.

Food Pairings:

Versatile due to its freshness, acidity, and subtle brioche notes. Excellent as an apéritif or with:

  • Smoked salmon, oysters, shellfish, and seafood

  • Duck liver pâté, soft cheeses

  • Blinis, light poultry, salads, or party nibbles

  • Classic pairings for high-quality sparkling: fried chicken, creamy pastas, or sushi.

Drink Window:

  • Drink now through 4–6+ years from release (many NV releases show well 5+ years post-disgorgement due to lees aging and high acidity). Current releases are generally ready upon release but benefit from short-term cellaring for more complexity.
