This is a single-vineyard/old-vines cuvée (Vieilles Vignes / Vieille Vigne) from Domaine Métrat (or Bernard Métrat & Fils / Domaine Metrat et Fils) in the La Roilette lieu-dit of Fleurie. La Roilette is one of the top sites in the appellation (historically bordering Moulin-à-Vent), with pink granite/clay or deep black granite soils that give the wine more structure and depth than typical Fleurie. The vines are old (often noted as 60–90+ years). It is made in a classic Beaujolais style (semi-carbonic maceration) with some barrel influence in parts of the cuvée for added complexity.

The 2015 vintage was powerful and concentrated due to the warm, ripe year, but it retains freshness, minerality, and precision. Expect floral (iris, violet, rose), red and black fruit (cherry, blackberry, peach, redcurrant), with velvety texture, fine tannins, and good aging potential. It is often described as elegant yet structured, with Gamay at its perfumed, characterful best.

Critics Reviews / Tasting Notes (2015):

  • Jamie Goode (wineanorak.com): “Superb… dense and concentrated – hallmarks of the 2015 vintage – but it also has freshness, minerality and precision. Vivid with good acidity supporting the stony black cherry and blackberry fruit, with some tannic grip and lovely brightness and focus. A powerful, structured expression of Gamay, but it isn’t heavy or clunky… Will likely develop well.” 93/100.
  • General critic consensus for the wine (across vintages) is strong, often in the high 80s–low 90s; average critic score around 90 on Wine-Searcher. Floral, fruity, elegant with structure from the old vines and site.

  • Other notes mention velvety texture, floral/fruity aromas (irises, violets, wilted roses, peaches, blackcurrants), fine tannins, and food-friendliness.

Drink Window:

  • 2015 was a ripe, structured vintage. It drinks well now (with some evolution) and should hold or improve for several more years—potentially 5–10+ years from release depending on storage. Many similar cuvées from the domaine are noted for aging well.

Food Pairings:

  • Classic for Fleurie/Gamay: chicken, turkey, charcuterie, grilled sausages, lighter red meats, pork, veal, mushroom dishes, or Lyon-style cuisine (e.g., coq au vin, osso buco, or even some fish like tuna with the right preparation). It pairs well with earthy, savory, or slightly gamey flavors while its fruit and acidity cut through richness. Also good with vegetarian options or charcuterie boards. Serve slightly chilled if young.
