Description

The 2019 Château Beaumont Haut-Médoc is a refined, medium-to-full-bodied red wine that exemplifies the elegance and structure of the Haut-Médoc terroir. Produced from a 114-hectare estate situated between Margaux and Saint-Julien, this wine benefits from deep gravel soils and sustainable farming practices (Terra Vitis certified since 2004). It’s aged for 12–14 months in oak barrels (one-third new), which lends subtle toasty and spicy nuances to its fruit-driven core. The wine pours a deep garnet-purple, with a bouquet of blackberry, cassis, and briary notes, accented by hints of tobacco, pencil shavings, and a touch of spice from Petit Verdot. On the palate, it’s harmonious and fleshy, with supple tannins, vibrant acidity, and a lingering finish marked by dark fruit and an herbal lift.

Critics Reviews

The 2019 vintage has been well-received for its balance and value:

  • James Suckling: 92/100 – “This is full and plush for a Haut-Médoc with medium to full body. Lots of blackberries and fresh herbs with redcurrants, too. Chewy, but polished. Give it two or three years to soften. Best after 2024.”
  • Neal Martin (Vinous): 91/100 – “The 2019 Beaumont, cropped at 50hL/ha, has a lovely, delineated bouquet of blackberry, briary and light tobacco notes. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins… a tangy seaweed note toward the finish. Just what you want from a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur. Drinking range: 2023–2040.”
  • Antonio Galloni (Vinous): 89/100 – “The 2019 Beaumont is a powerful, burly Haut-Médoc. Black cherry, herb, licorice, tobacco and game all run through this potent wine… Expressive Cabernet Sauvignon accents build nicely into the finish.”
  • Wine Advocate: 88–90+ (barrel sample) – Noted its “firm, chewy tannins and lively acidity supporting black fruit preserves flavors.”

Food Pairings

This Cabernet Sauvignon-led blend pairs well with a variety of dishes:

  • Meats: Roast beef, lamb with rosemary, or duck confit.
  • Game: Venison or pheasant, especially with a fruit-based sauce.
  • Cheeses: Aged gouda, comté, or a mild blue cheese.
  • Vegetarian: Grilled eggplant with herbs or a wild mushroom risotto.
  • Charcuterie: Complements the savory richness of cured meats.

Drink Window

  • Optimal Drinking: 2025–2034. As of March 26, 2025, it’s still youthful, with firm tannins that will soften over the next couple of years. Decanting for an hour is recommended now to open up the fruit.
  • Peak Maturity: Likely 2026–2030, when the wine’s structure integrates fully, revealing more complexity (earth, spice).
